LE PROJET GIANT MATCH : MEET MY IN-LAWS

Le Giant Match (meet my in-laws) veut créer un grand spectacle, mariant arts plastiques et théâtre de rue et réunir des artistes d’origine et de nationalité diverses autour d’une création collective

UNE GRANDE RENCONTRE (je vous présente mes beaux-parents) /THE GIANT MATCH (meet my in laws)

À partir de juin 2010, les espaces publics et les banlieues populaires de la province du Gauteng et d’ailleurs ont reçu la visite d’un spectacle de rue mettant en scène 28 marionnettes géantes et nombre de masques et d’objets.

Ce projet, développé en atelier avec une centaine d’artistes et d’artisans sud-africain, de l’écriture à la fabrication des marionnettes, souhaite favoriser l’émergence d’un collectif de marionnettes géantes dans le Gauteng, capable de faire fructifier les techniques acquises et les créations réalisées.

Une Grande Rencontre/ The Giant Match (meet my in laws) est conçu comme un spectacle de rue à grande échelle, accessible à tous. Il trouve toute son ampleur dans les townships sud-africains où le nombre de piétons et la hauteur des bâtiments lui permettent d’être vu de partout et de jouer en toute liberté.

Revisitant l’universel Roméo et Juliette, The Giant Match (meet my in laws) raconte une histoire de famille qui est aussi une histoire d’amour. Un garçon et une fille, issus de familles que tout sépare, les Majakathata et les Mkhize, s’aiment. Leur aventure ranime l’animosité ancienne de leurs parentés. À la fin, tous se réconcilient, après un match de football héroï-comique, et le mariage de Bogale et de Thobile peut être célébré ; il donne lieu à l’habituelle photographie, mais aussi à une parade nuptiale géante.

Les personnages de la Grande Rencontre sont aussi bigarrés que la « Rainbow nation » et appartiennent à quatre générations, de l’arrière-grand-père en fauteuil roulant à l’oncle, de la grand-mère fantôme au petit dernier.

Meet my in laws !!!

A large Majakathata family lives in a small township, this morning they had a clash between Long and Rough road when one of the Mkhize taxi’s lost control and collided next to Mr. Majakathata on his way to collect scrap metal plates, injuring his arm, until now no one was hurt from the taxi. “It was an accident”, the driver of the taxi said when questioned. The angry father then went straight to a big house owned by the Chairman of the taxi association, “What was he doing in the middle of the road ?” Mr. Mkhize commented just before the angry father went home a helpless man. This has caused a dispute between the two families since then, insulting each other verbally. A normal day in a park, Thobile a beautiful daughter of the taxi association chairperson Mr. Mkhize meet what she called “The love of her life”, Bogale, the second born of the Majakathat’s family. It was like rubbing salt in the Majakathata’s wound, “They will not get married while I’m still alive” The Majakathata father commented to the couple, with the Mkhize’s fighting their own direction. At the moment it is reported that their anger is so strong that they’re ready to fight, although the elders are still trying to calm them down.
